Tattooed Brides: how to choose the perfect Wedding Dress!

An alternative bridal look has never been as fashionable as it is right now, and tattooed brides really know how to pull it out but here is the question “what will it look like on your wedding day?”

For some, tattoos are a special memory, for others represent a turning point or a memorable message. Or maybe your tattoos are simply a reflection of your life philosophy. Whatever your tattoos mean to you, when it comes to your wedding day, you might want to show them off or incorporate them into your wedding dress look.

So how to do it? Here’s some advice to help you choose the perfect wedding dress to complement your inked messages!

I’ll take as an example this beautiful styled beach wedding shot featuring a bridal separate look from my new collection. Let’s examine this look.

1) STYLE & FABRICS

Go for an open back if it’s your back that’s etched. As you take your vows, all eyes will be on your back. Choose a wedding gown or have one designed for you with a low back that reveals all. Sliced open right down to the waist, V-back dresses are perfect for showing off everything from a single rose to a full back artwork. Add drama with a bow tie at waist!

If it's the chest that is tattooed sweetheart or plunge necklines are the perfect shapes.

If you are sporting arm inks, you can choose sleeves or no sleeves but personally I think covering it up with a soft lace or sheer fabric will create a soft look to counteract the boldness of the ink look.  Wouldn’t you agree this bride’s tattoos look amazing with her feminine bridal lace top?!

If you’re a bride with a piece of inked artwork on your lower legs, a wedding dress that’s longer at the back and shorter at the front does a great job of showing off ankle designs. Be sure to choose a wedding shoe that doesn’t cover up any ankle tattoos but instead accentuates them. Show off you tattoo by running barefoot on the beach!

2) ACCESSORIES HAIR AND MAKEUP

Make your tattoos the ultimate bridal accessory to last a lifetime. If your inks extend up your neck line, be sure to go hair-up on the day, and ditch the veil. Make sure your body art shines! Add a touch of quirkiness with playful accessories if you like a touch of fun in your bridal look. How not to love this bride starred crown and bespoke ring? On the other hand keep the make up natural, flawless and understated as the tattoos are already so unique.

3) VENUE AND FLOWERS

A spring wedding or beach wedding would be the perfect setting for a bride’s tatted look. An outdoor setting means you can go for lighter fabrics and more carefree wedding dress styles. Make your body art be part of the scene!

I love how the natural theme of the tattoos are matched with the greenery of her bridal bouquet bridal. A perfect match to a coastal wedding. And did you spot the bird?

TAKE AWAY TIP: go for a style that is not overpowering but more minimal and streamlined as your tattoos will do the talking! If you have your own unique style I hope you have chosen to embrace it because you will look incredible!
